2024 in Review: A Year of AI Exploration and Learning
Introduction
As we say goodbye to 2024, let’s take a moment to reflect on an incredible year in the world of Artificial Intelligence. For me, this year has been extra special because I finally started this blog—a dream come true! Throughout the year, we’ve explored how AI is changing our lives and industries in fascinating ways. Here are some of the highlights from 2024.
1. Back to Basics: AI & ML
We kicked off the year by going over the basics of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. These foundational concepts are everywhere now, helping with things like:
Recommendation systems powered by supervised learning.
Finding hidden patterns in data using unsupervised learning.
These basics set the stage for all the exciting topics we explored later.

2. Generative AI: Creativity Unleashed
This year, Generative AI really took off. We dug into what makes it different from regular AI and how it’s helping:
Boost human creativity and productivity.
By the end of the year, top S&P 500 companies started to incorporate AI-powered summarization for enterprise and consumer applications.
AI isn't replacing creativity—it's making it even better!
3. Tackling AI Mistakes: Hallucinations
One big challenge in AI this year was dealing with "hallucinations"—times when AI gives wrong or weird answers. We looked at:
Why hallucinations happen.
How methods like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) can fix them.
Making AI more reliable will mean better, more trustworthy tools for everyone.
Find out how AI is getting more reliable
4. Exploring LLMs, AI Agents and AGI
We took a closer look at Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents. Some highlights included:
Demystifying LLM parameters.
Learning about tokens, the building blocks of AI language.
Discovering how AI agents can help in exciting new ways.
A new trend in AI: Early steps toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), where researchers are working to make AI systems adaptable and capable of learning across multiple domains. Check out more here: AGI Blog | AGI Paper
5. GPUs - Powering AI revolution
The year wouldn't be complete without acknowledging the critical role of GPUs in advancing AI. Understanding the differences between CPUs and GPUs helped us appreciate the relationship between LLMs and GPU chips. As AI's computational demands grow, so does the importance of considering its environmental impact, leading to discussions on more efficient AI practices.
6. Real-Life Examples: How AI is Helping
We saw how AI is solving real-world problems through case studies, like:
Healthcare: Helping doctors diagnose and treat patients.
Finance: Innovations from companies like Zest AI.
Customer Service: Amazon’s AI-powered chat tools.
7. Ethical AI: Responsible Development
We explored the crucial topic of ethical AI development, focusing on:
Machine unlearning and its role in privacy protection
Challenges and solutions in implementing ethical AI practices
Ethical AI and Machine Unlearning
8. Hackathon Fun: Teamwork at Its Best
One of my favorite moments this year was joining a hackathon in December. Our team had six hours to brainstorm, agree, develop, and pitch our idea. We created a concept for multi-modal AI agents that work like a group chat to help people learn about the vagus nerve. The experience was filled with brainstorming, debating, and teamwork—resulting in a working demo that we presented at the end of the day!
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we head into 2025, the lessons we’ve learned this year—from the basics to the latest innovations—will shape what’s next. Whether you’re an AI pro or just curious, there’s so much to look forward to.
Thank you for reading through the blog. Looking forward to exploring more AI with you in the coming year!
